St John Fishing Trip

Well it has been quite a while since I have been talking and planning on a fishing trip on a off shore island. So here goes on the 2nd last week b4 school reopens with a St John Island Fishing Trip.

The partner for this trip is non other than my VERY supportive brother, who always goes with me to Ulu Ulu places to fish and explore. I must say this time round is the most major of all.

We came to Marina South Pier in the early morning of 0930 hrs on 27 Dec 2007, having bought lunch and brining tons of barang barang. The ferry moves off @ 10am, and the ferry cost S$15 bucks for a to and fro trip.

A interesting point to note is that there is a stop over of 30 mins at Kusu Island for us to Jalan Jalan for a while. So cool!!! I always wanted to see what is on Kusu Island, the famous temple and the quiet beaches and trees around the small island.

We reached St John Island around 11am, and fishing starts on the connector to Lazarus Island, as recommended by fishing forum sources. Haha.....a few hours passed and there were no bites, and its another Angler's Hell where our weights keep Sankoting, and soon we decided to change our spot due to the sun, and I know fishes dun feel at bright sunlight.

We decided to explore Lazarus Island, and reached the legendary clear blur beach. I must say it is really a superb beach with nice sands, water, and no one in sight. We used floats this time round, after being too scared of losing our weights. *Sianz, there was no bites also....I wonder why......isit because its a breakwater?

Anyway, we gave up at Lazarus beach at 5pm and went back to fish at the connector, before preparing for dinner. We had Cup Noodles for dinner, and Cold Chrysanthemum Tea. After that we went to the jetty to fish after night fall came and light became very dimmed.

At the jetty, its another waiting frenzy of a few hours, before my brother go and hooked up innocent looking Angle fish lurking near the jetty looking for food. Well I must say thanks for the first blood which made this trip seems abit better. Before long I also landed a fish, but I dunno what it is, I think its a kind of shark judging by its look, but nvm a fish is a fish. Well just when we decided to turn in for the night, I reeled in a weird creature called Sea Urchin, hope I'm right. Then when I fell asleep my brother reeled in another creature called Eel. So I guess its a miserable 4 catch for this St John trip. All catches were Caught And Release.

Well though I must say the catches were rather disappointing, it did not dampened my enthusiasm for fishing, and I will keep trying to improve my jigs and methods.
The scenery and peacefulness was great , something which I have not enjoyed for such a long time. I also got to enjoy the night view of Singapore Mainland and various landmark such as Singapore Flyer and For Canning Hill.

Next spot I want to go is a kelong, cos its rather disappointing for my brother who did not enjoyed the joy of catching 14 fish in a hour when I first started.

Till then ~~~ Cheers.
